Which Dog Food is Best For Your Dog?

There are lots of high-quality, premium dog foods on the market these days. They include Blue Buffalo, Flint River, and Life’s Abundance. These premium foods also come with premium price tags, though, and while you don’t want to compromise on the cost of feeding your dog, you also don’t want to have to mortgage the house!

Especially if you have a big dog, premium dog foods can wind up costing a heck of a lot. Fortunately, there are brands that aren’t quite so expensive.

In my case, I feed Canidae. I buy it online from PetFoodsDirect.com and stock up on cookies while I’m at it. They offer great discounts (I love the 22% off they offer occassionally to current customers) and they ship fast and are really responsive. In fact, I once discovered that a bag of dogfood I’d purchased from them wasn’t completely sealed and they sent a new one, no questions asked, no hassle. It’s service like that that makes me a customer for life!

Another great brand is Nutro and the reason that I chose Canidae instead was simply because there was *less* variety which made it easier to pick the right food for my dog. My dog devours this stuff–seriously, he can hardly sit still while I fill his bowl, and he’s a really picky eater (completely unstereotypically since he’s a Labrador).

I originally found Canidae when I was feeding Iams and my dog got persistent ear infections that just would not go away. So, after doing my research and discovering the likely cause was allergies, I switched his food and haven’t looked back. That was before the big pet food scare, and it was such a relief to know I had nothing to worry about because his food was never among those that were dangerous.

Every time we go to the vet, the vet comments on his healthy coat and overall great health and, knock wood, he’s been consistently very healthy. You’ll read a lot about that premium dog foods will keep your dog healthier, which reduces your vet bills, but let’s be honest, as much as you want to keep your dog healthy, you’re not willing to stop feeding your kids… For me, Canidae is the best ballance of value and price–in fact, it costs a lot less than some brands that are considered to be less nutritional.

Ultimately, you have to decide on the food that’s right for your dog, but I totally recommend considering Canidae in your quest for a healthy dog food.
